    Default AWD Triptronic Shifter

    Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone knows if the Auto Triptronic Shifter from a TJ or TH is a straight swap/plug and play with a TL AWD?

The Chrome on mine is buggered like most and, I like the more positive feel of the metal assembly from the TH/TJ series than the plastic assembly.

    Triptronic??

The tiptronic shifter plate from TJ is different from TL/TW - the method of attaching the plate to the shifter mechanism underneath is entirely different.

TJ's have four small screws underneath the chrome plate which screw-in from the sides.
The TL/TW chrome plate attaches by plastic tabs which clip over protrusions on the underlying part.

I learned this the hard way by paying good money to remove the "wrong" plate from a wreck at Campbelltown, in blistering heat...... which I then had to on-sell as it was of no possible use in my car!

I also prefer the Chrome look, tho it does occasionally dazzle.

Ignore the above it is wrong.

Yes, the metal assembly is a direct swap over for the plastic assembly. It will plug and play.

Make sure you get the leather shift knob though, as it will use an M12 securing nut at the top of the shifter rather than the screw in the front. Otherwise all good.

And I agree. the Metal assembly is much much better.

Cheers for the above reply mcs_xi,

My gut feeling was that it is a straight swap, but a local Mitsubishi dismantler thought otherwise, hence my query.

    No worries.

One thing, if the shifter comes from a non-awd car, which is incredibly likely, it may not have the bracket to bolt on the two cables for the shift interlock. I would advise taking this opportunity to remove the cables as it is a shit system and it is of no consequence to have it missing. I removed it from my AWD day one.
